Companies Must Restructure Operability at Slow Border Crossings

Companies Must Restructure Operability at Slow Border Crossings

Manufacturing companies in Mexico must restructure their production and shipment process in order to avoid losses, said Román Caso Espinosa, President of the National Chamber of the Telecommunications Electronic Industry and Information Technologies (CANIETI), Zona Costa, and VP of Operations at Co-Production International, due to the delay in the crossings border.

The leader explained that both, companies and government will be taking measures so that the flow of goods is not interrupted, so the Mexican customs has adopted changes to maintain fluidity.

"A large part of the exports of our region are in line with the Just-in-Time of the maquiladora industry, so there are important commercial commitments that have an impact on the stability of our industry. We are very happy that the Mexican customs is doing everything possible to make this easier, "he said.

Coordination is also maintained with the City of Tijuana to avoid traffic chaos, he added, establishing an order in the roads and avoiding incidents caused by desperation, since the drivers spend long hours at the border crossing.

The president of the Canieti mentioned that until now the companies manufacturing in Mexico have not had losses as such, material, but in their operation, since the time that is lost is considered a loss.

He noted that each company has told its corporate in the United States, as well as its customers, that these delays in the delivery of goods are due to changes in the security strategy of their country, so they ask for understanding.

"Yes there is communication, but the market is the market and is used to a rhythm of compliance. That is why we are trying to reconcile the methods and commitment times of production and shipping, "he said.

The chamber has called on its partners to restructure and learn to work with the new scenario, since it is not seen in the short term that there is a change.

Finally, the leader of CANIETI assured that the competitiveness of the industry of Baja California would not have to be affected, because it is not only about "deliveries on time", but there are other factors to its benefit such as quality and efficiency, and it's only about adjusting time parameters.
